The art of Andy Fletcher's hand-drawn locomotives inspired the Norfolk Southern 30th Anniversary locomotives.

How Andy Fletcher came to Design the Norfolk Southern 30th Anniversary Heritage Engines.

In 2009 Andy had seen the Union Pacific Heritage engines and had drawn them for posters, matted prints and magnets. He knew that the Norfolk Southern 30th Anniversary was coming up in 2012 and he began drawing proposed NS Heritage engines in his free time.

In January of 2011 he was contacted by the C&O Historical Society asking if he could make a poster for an event they were doing at the Virginia Railroad Museum with their C&O #614 and the N&W 611 & the N&W #1218 for a February "Train Lovers Day". He contacted the VMT who said they would love for for him to attend the event. Once he was at the event the museums offered him a "artist in residence". He decided to take it and move to Roanoke, VA which he knew had been the Headquarters of the N&W and the shops that build the N&W #611 and other steam engines. Living in Virginia he traveled across the state to visit Norfolk Southern towns and gave talks about the importance for trains to deliver the freight we all need everyday.
